Although QR codes are a type of BIDImensional barcode (i.e. the information is stored in a two-dimensional code), the term BIDI was first used by MoviStar for a type of code that it tried to implement (without great success) years ago under this name. The BIDI code used by Movistar was a Datamatrix type which is also a BIDImensional barcode but it was not a QR.

No. It is not mandatory. Black and white QRs are the most reliable to read even with low performance terminals, but it is possible to use colors in QRs as long as they keep a good contrast ratio between the background and the pixels.
Can a logo or an image be added to the QR code?
Yes, it is possible to make modifications on a QR to insert a small logo or image. This is possible because you can generate QR codes with a larger size and a higher level of error correction and take advantage of small areas of the QR to insert the image. If any type of modification is made, it is highly recommended to test read the code to ensure proper functionality.
Do customized QR codes work the same as regular QR codes?
Yes, they work exactly the same. You can scan them with any reader or mobile camera. You just have to make sure that the contrast and size are correct.
